A wall with a high STC rating therefore does not provide an IIC rating for impact noise occurring above or below a room.

How Much Quieter Is An STC 50 Wall Than An STC 35 Wall?

STC numbers should not be interpreted as percentages of sound blocked. An STC 35 partition may allow loud speech to remain understandable, whereas speech through an STC 50 partition is generally much less intelligible.
